Celtic’s 1966/67 campaign is unprecedented in the club’s long and illustrious history, and most likely in the football world too.

That was the season when Jock Stein’s side won every trophy they competed for – the traditional domestic Treble of the league, League Cup and Scottish Cup – along with the Glasgow Cup and, of course, the European Cup.

That was the pinnacle of an incredible season, when Celtic became the first British side to become Kings of Europe, beating Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon’s Estadio Nacional on May 25, 1967

It was a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for a club which had finished eighth in the league just two years previously, but the arrival of Jock Stein as manager triggered a seismic shift in Scottish football.

He won the Scottish Cup in April 1965, which heralded an era of unimaginable success, with the team winning by playing pure, beautiful inventive football.

And 60 years on from that historic 1966/67 campaign, this season’s official match programme is celebrating those achievements with a special series of 19 collectable programmes.

For each home Premiership fixture, the front cover will feature an iconic figure from that season, and the programme for the Falkirk game on Saturday features Jimmy Johnstone.

And as each programme is published – 19 in total – they will form a stunning montage of the players and management that is a must for any Celtic fan to collect (see image below).

Our first league game against Dundee featured Billy McNeill, while Wednesday night’s programme cover star for the match against Aberdeen will be Bertie Auld.

Each issue will also have in-depth features and archive features with the cover star, while the posters will also form the same stunning collage as the cover – a great piece of Celtic artwork to adorn any bedroom wall!

And each league programme will be accompanied by a special episode of the Official Celtic FC Podcast, featuring archive interviews with the Celtic legends who were part of that historic season.

The 1966/67 season actually kicked off on August 13, 1966 with a 2-0 victory over Hearts at Tynecastle in a League Cup sectional game, with Joe McBride scoring both goals in that game.

The first league game wasn’t until September 10, when the Hoops won 3-0 against Clyde at Shawfield, by which time they had also thumped Rangers 4-0 in the Glasgow Cup, with Bobby Lennox scoring a hat-trick.
