Early on in the summer, it was made aware that Real Madrid were looking to move on Alvaro Rodriguez. The Uruguayan youngster, who had broke into the first team during the 2022-23 campaign, but could not repeat the feat last season, was not in the club’s plans, and the ideal situation was a permanent sale (with a sell-on/buy-back clause included).
Getafe emerged as early favourites to sign Rodriguez, but due to their financial woes, they have been unable to present an offer. However, the recent big-money sale of Gaston Alvarez to Saudi Arabia has opened some door, and allowed Jose Bordalas’ squad to be added to.
A striker has been the biggest necessity, given that Borja Mayoral has still not recovered from the serious knee injury that he suffered in March. Bertug Yildirim arrived from Rennes last week, and now Relevo have reported that Rodriguez will sign on a season-long loan from Real Madrid before Friday’s deadline.
It remains to be seen the impact that Rodriguez has at Getafe this season, but Real Madrid will certainly hope that it’s enough for a permanent transfer to be sealed next summer.
