In a statement posted on X this Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed that the procedure went smoothly and that the player has already started the initial phase of rehabilitation. The operation was performed at the Toyota Memorial Hospital, supervised by the Black Stars' medical staff in collaboration with the medical team from Toulouse FC and Japanese specialists.

Having joined Toulouse this season after his stint at Cercle Brugge, Francis Abu returned to the national team for the November international window after missing the September and October matches. He is expected to be sidelined for an extended period.

Ghana will face South Korea on November 18 in their next friendly match.
