Celtic FC Women booked their place in the Sky Sports Cup semi-final in style on Sunday afternoon, running out 9-1 winners over Queen’s Park.

It was a rampant first half display, which seen the Ghirls take a seven-goal lead in at the break.

That was followed up by second half goals from Emma Lawton and Maria McAneny as the Hoops comfortably sealed their place in the semi-finals.

Despite the emphatic scoreline, it took some time for the Celts to build into the game, with their first goal of the match not coming until 23 minutes in.

That kick-started a goal fest at New Douglas Park, with Maria McAneny opening the scoring before the half hour mark.

The midfielder turned home her first of the afternoon, meeting Hannah Luke’s corner expertly to score the first of the day.

That goal seemed to kick the Hoops into action, with plenty more to come in the first half as Saoirse Noonan followed that up shortly after.

The striker tucked the ball home expertly from the penalty spot after Lisa Robertson was judged to be followed inside the penalty area.

The goals just seemed to keep coming for Celtic after that, with Momo Nakao scoring her third of the season with a powerful finish inside the penalty area.

Morgan Cross continued her fine form in front of goal also, scoring with a cool finish following some nice build-ups play around the penalty area.

Just before the half time whistle blew, the Ghirls inflicted more blows onto the visitors, as Saoirse Noonan got her second of the afternoon – the first of four braces on the day.

Only a minute later, Morgan Cross produced a similar finish to her first with a calm and composed strike inside the area.

The scoring in the first half was rounded off by Emma Lawton, who marked her 50th appearance in the Hoops with a goal, being the first to react to a loose ball inside the area.

It was an utterly dominant first-half display from Celtic, who were showing their ruthlessness in front of goal, going in at the break seven ahead.

And they seemed to be showing no signs of slowing up as they started the second half, just as they had finished the first, with an Emma Lawton goal.

This strike, being arguably the pick of the bunch, the Hoops worked the ball around the area, before the ball was fed to the full-back.

She produced a powerful finish, which gave the goalkeeper no chance, and added to a superb afternoon for Celtic.

With three other players on a brace, Maria McAneny soon joined that act, getting her second of the day.

The midfielder scored a pin-point header to make it nine, and stretch Celtic’s advantage even further.

The home side were able to add a goal of their own in the second half, reducing the deficient slightly.

But that would have no impact on what was a brilliant performance from the Ghirls, who booked their place in the last four in style.

Elena Sadiku’s side will discover who they face in Tuesday’s draw. But next up is a return to league action for the Glasgow derby as they travel to Ibrox next Friday evening.

Celtic: Rodgers, Lawton, Clark, Walsh, Luke, Robertson, McAneny, Momo (McGoldrick 58’), Cross (Richardson 58’)), Smith (Dawson 58’), Noonan
