Juventus have been struggling this campaign, and the Bianconeri could be facing another disappointing season. Giancarlo Marocchi believes one reason for their difficulties is that some of the current players do not understand the history of the club.

The Bianconeri are the most successful team in Italian football history and have consistently competed at the top of the domestic game, which means expectations around the club remain high.

However, since Juventus last won the league title in 2020, the club appears to have struggled to maintain or reignite the culture of excellence that helped them dominate the Italian top flight for a decade.

Juventus struggle to rediscover winning culture

During that successful period, Juventus also reached the Champions League final twice. Their history and resources mean the team can achieve more than it is currently managing, but rebuilding the mentality associated with their previous success has proved difficult.

One of the club’s biggest challenges has been passing that winning culture on to a new group of players whenever the team enters the transfer market to strengthen the squad.

So far, Juventus have struggled to make some players understand the club they represent and the expectations that come with wearing the famous shirt. Marocchi believes this is a key issue affecting the Bianconeri.

Marocchi questions sense of belonging

The former Juventus player reflected on the mentality that previously surrounded the club, explaining how even a draw or defeat could create discomfort among the players.

Marocchi also suggested that some current players may not have the same understanding of Juventus’ history and could be more focused on their contracts than their connection with the club. He said via Tuttomercatoweb:

“Once at Juve, if you drew or lost, you felt uncomfortable, that’s what was in the air. What players who don’t know the history of the team where they play and only think about contracts can perceive now.

“The sense of belonging is less and less affected.”

Marocchi’s comments highlight his view that Juventus need to reconnect their current squad with the traditions and expectations that have defined the club. Their recent struggles have raised questions about how the Bianconeri can restore the winning culture associated with their most successful periods.
