John Elkann has been heavily involved in the running of Juventus since his cousin, Andrea Agnelli, and the board he led resigned amid a wave of financial scandals.
Elkann is the main figure in charge of the family business and has chosen to remain closer to the club than he was when Agnelli was president. He has also played an active role in decisions concerning the club during the period since Agnelli’s departure.
During the last few seasons, Elkann has continued to make changes to the club, including changes involving managers, sporting directors and other staff, but Juventus remain unstable.
The Bianconeri made a poor start to this season, and there is a possibility that they could replace Luciano Spalletti, despite Elkann personally backing his appointment as permanent manager.
Elkann runs the family business and therefore has several commitments to manage, yet he appears to be dedicating significant time to ensuring Juventus are also moving in the right direction.
The Bianconeri will continue to be closely overseen by Elkann, although former Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has questioned whether this approach makes sense. His comments focus on Elkann’s role as a shareholder and his responsibilities towards the club.
Cobolli Gigli also raised questions about Juventus’ transfer activity and spending, while discussing the relationship between Elkann and the club’s management.

The former Juventus president said via Calciomercato:
“I’ve heard about a discussion with the coach and managers, everything is useful, but maybe there’s some problem with the game setup. Let’s also talk about the failed purchasing campaigns, where too much was spent? Elkann is a shareholder in Juve, a publicly traded company. The fact that newspapers always bring up Elkann is conceptually wrong. He must remain a shareholder, who puts his men on the Board of Directors and must make the people responsible for managing Juve work.”
Cobolli Gigli’s opinion highlights his view that Elkann’s position as a shareholder should be distinguished from the responsibilities of those directly managing Juventus.
For now, Elkann remains closely involved with the club, while Juventus continue to navigate an unstable period. With questions surrounding the team’s performances and the future of the coaching staff, his influence over the club is likely to remain a significant talking point.
