Gianinna Maradona told a court on Tuesday that her family was subjected to total manipulation by the medical team around Diego Maradona in the final weeks before his death in 2020.

According to L'Équipe, the 36-year-old singled out three defendants during the hearing in San Isidro, near Buenos Aires, where they are accused of potentially fatal negligence.

She said she had trusted those three, yet believes they manipulated the family and left her son without his grandfather.

Seven health professionals, including a doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist and nurses, are on trial over their possible responsibility for the death of the Argentine football great.

Diego Maradona died aged 60 from cardiorespiratory arrest and pulmonary oedema, alone in bed at a rented home while recovering from an uncomplicated neurosurgery.
