FIFA president Gianni Infantino used the UEFA Congress in Brussels on Thursday morning to applaud the agreement over the Super League, congratulating those who struck it. L'Équipe reports that he welcomed a resolution to the long-running saga.

An agreement was reached on Wednesday between UEFA, the EFC and Real Madrid, intended to draw a line under the plan. The project had long been at a standstill.

Infantino singled out UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, PSG and EFC chief Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for praise.

He said the game prospers when it stands together, urging less focus on negativity and aggression. He described football as a beautiful sport.

Real were the last club still appearing to believe in the Super League, a failed 2021 attempt to create a breakaway competition.
