Giannis Antetokounmpo joins Chelsea Women ownership, vows to elevate women’s sport

NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has joined the ownership group of Chelsea Women.
The 31-year-old has added the Women's Super League champions to his portfolio of sporting investments, after similar involvement with Major League Soccer side Nashville SC and Major League Baseball franchise Milwaukee Brewers.
Antetokounmpo took to social media on Saturday night to announce his investment withChelsea Women, outlining his pride at joining a side with a 'winning culture'.
Chelsea have won the last six consecutive Women's Super League titles and eight of the last nine.
In his official statement, Antetokounmpo also vowed to support the continued growth of women's sport.
"I'm proud and honored to partner with my friend @alexisohanian, joining the ownership group of @ChelseaFCW, a historic club built on passion, excellence, and a winning culture," he wrote inthe post.
"Chelsea’s history speaks for itself, and I’m excited to contribute to the future by supporting continued growth and impact in women’s sport. This is about ambition, legacy, and pushing the game to new heights. Up the Chels!"
Antetokounmpo has partnered with friend Alexis Ohanian, who is a minority owner inChelsea Women. Ohanian purchased a 10% stake in the West Londoners from BlueCo in May 2025. He is the co-founder of Reddit and husband to tennis legend Serena Williams.
Antetokounmpo is one of the biggest stars in NBA and is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. He was born in Athens to Nigerian parents before being selected in the 2013 NBA draft.
After winning back-to-back Most Valuable Player Awards in 2019 and 2020, he became just the third player in the sport's history to achieve that feat before turning 26, after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James.
Nicknamed 'The Greek Freak', he led Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA Championship in 50 years in 2021.
