Agustín Giay is enjoying his best spell at Palmeiras in 2026, newly recalled by Argentina and established as Abel Ferreira’s first-choice right-back. He has turned early doubt into prominence in key matches.

According to Nosso Palestra, Allan’s €37.5m move to Manchester City, plus €2.5m in add-ons, sharpened Giay’s role on the right. He has featured more and taken on extra duties, at right-back in a back four or wing-back with three centre-backs.

Signed in 2024, Giay needed time to settle. In 2026 he won the right-back spot and became a regular under Abel. Once mainly defensive, he now joins attacks and occupies varied spaces.

His first assist arrived against Santos in the Copa do Brasil, then he struck his first Palmeiras goal versus LDU at Nubank Parque in a Libertadores quarter-final first leg. It was his first in 98 games and sealed a 1-0 win over the Ecuadorians.

He previously travelled to the United States for Argentina’s 2026 World Cup preparations but missed the final squad. Lionel Scaloni has now called him for friendlies with Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin.

His rise comes in a decisive Palmeiras season across the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores, where versatility is essential.
