Abel Ferreira has backed Giay, hailing his dedication after the right-back set up José Manuel López in Palmeiras’ 3-0 win over Santos in the Copa do Brasil quarter-final first leg.
According to Globo.com, the cross created López’s second of the night and was Giay’s first goal involvement since joining the club.
Ferreira said dedication is the greatest talent and that nobody at Palmeiras matches the Argentine for it. He accepted Giay misplaces passes and crosses, but stressed he gives everything and, with time and calm plus the crowd’s support, is starting to produce.
He called it important to see the full-back grow, noting others had delivered more in the past and are not at that level now. He also warned Giay to treat praise and criticism as impostors and suggested many had previously laid into him, which does not make him the best in the world.
Giay said his first duty is to defend, then to help in attack when required. He added that he keeps working when things do not come off and was happy to finally supply an assist, saying he feels good and that the team are performing well.
López praised his compatriot’s effort and form, saying he was pleased for him and with his own two goals. Giay later underlined López’s importance and their close bond, calling the assist special and saying the striker needs to keep scoring.
