LOSC beat Angers 2-0 at Stade Raymond Kopa to start their Ligue 1 campaign in the Champions League places.

Olivier Giroud struck in the 11th minute, rifling from outside the box after Nabil Bentaleb's pass. Tiago Santos then doubled the lead with a composed finish (31.).

Anthony Lopes kept Angers in the game with six saves, thwarting Hakon Arnar Haraldsson and tipping away Santos before the interval.

After Prosper Peter came on, the hosts found space and Berke Ozer blocked two close-range efforts from the striker. Angers pressed in second half stoppage time, but Usman Simbakoli glanced wide in the fourth minute.

Davide Ancelotti's side were clinical, registering eight shots on target from 11 attempts. Angers had 56.6% possession and 20 attempts but hit the target only twice.

LOSC sit third after matchday one and host PSG next. Angers are 16th and visit Auxerre next.
