Goiás reject fresh Grêmio bid for Diego Caito as talks stall | OneFootball

Goiás have rejected another Grêmio bid for 22-year-old right-back Diego Caito, this time for a permanent transfer after an initial loan attempt fell through.

According to Globo.com, Goiás made a counterproposal, but Grêmio are not expected to return with a new offer. Agent Edson Neto travelled to Goiânia, yet no agreement was reached.

Caito had already informed Goiás of his wish to leave. Grêmio’s first approach was a one-year loan with an option to buy, which the Goiás board also declined.

Grêmio will continue to search for a right-back, identified as a shortfall in the squad for this season. The hierarchy are also targeting a playmaker and a centre-back for the left side.

So far, the club have announced centre-back Wallace and forward Matheus Nascimento as signings for the second half of the year. Cabo Verde international Jovane Cabral is also close to being confirmed.
