Michael Olise with late winner

Olise scored the decisive goal in the French national team’s 1–0 (0–0) win over Belgium in Brussels. Coach Zinedine Zidane brought on the Bayern forward in the 77th minute and he bagged the winner two minutes from time. Olise had won the ball in his own half and, after a spectacular solo run across half the pitch, finished with a low shot from around 15 metres – leaving Belgium’s goalkeeper Lammens with no chance.

The match was evenly balanced for a long period, before Olise's strike broke the Belgians' hearts in the midst of a period of intense French pressure just before the end.  Dayot Upamecano didn't feature in the game. The French Football Federation was full of praise for the 24-year-old Bayern striker’s goal on its website, writing: “What a piece of skill!”.

On Friday, at the Stade de France, the Equipe Tricolore now face Italy, who secured a resounding 4–1 win in Turkey.

Ito and Japan celebrated their second win in their second match of this international break on Monday. The Bayern defender came off the bench in the second half of the 2–1 (0–0) win over Venezuela in the 2026 Kirin Challenge Cup in Hiroshima.

The visitors took the lead shortly after the break through Kevin Kelsy (46'). Ayase Ueda (49') quickly equalised, before sealing victory for the hosts with a penalty in stoppage time (90'+6). Japan’s next match in the 2026 Kirin Cup is against Ecuador on Thursday.

The South Korean national team, featuring Minjae Kim, had an off day in their friendly against Uruguay and were beaten 4–1 (3–0) by the South Americans. The Bayern centre-back was in his country’s starting XI, just as he had been four days earlier in the 3–0 win over Ecuador, and was taken off at half-time.

Darwin Núñez put Uruguay ahead in the 13th minute then Giorgian de Arrascaeta (27') doubled the lead, before Minjae Kim, who had a day to forget, scored an own goal in the 43rd minute. Núñez then got a second in the 62nd minute to make it 4–0, before Lee Kang-in (80') at least managed to salvage some pride for the hosts. South Korea’s next friendly is on Friday, when they take on Venezuela at home.
