Gonçalo Oliveira leaves Benfica for Rennes in €3.5 million move, signs to 2031

Benfica have confirmed the departure of 19-year-old centre-back Gonçalo Oliveira to Rennes in a €3.5 million transfer. The move ends a 15-year association with Benfica.

Oliveira has signed with the French club until 2031. Rennes finished sixth in Ligue 1.

Regarded as one of the academy’s promising defenders, he trained with the first team on several occasions and was named in squads, but did not make a senior debut.

He posted an emotional farewell on social media, reflecting on years of growth, learning, challenges and successes he will carry with him.

The message also thanked team-mates, coaches, staff, directors and supporters, and said Benfica will remain an important part of his story.
