Portuguese striker Gonçalo Ramos was the hero for the French champions, coming off the bench and scoring on the stroke of 90 minutes to make it two wins from two for Luis Enrique’s side.

PSG came into the match with a much-weakened attack missing its typical three starters: newly-crowned Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, all of whom are injured. Portuguese midfielder João Neves also missed out with a minor knock, but Nuno Mendes and Vitinha started for the visitors.

Barcelona went ahead through Ferran Torres on 19 minutes, but Seleção star Nuno Mendes was vital in the equaliser before the break. The former Sporting man received possession in a non-threatening position inside his own half, before instigating a pass-and-move progression of the ball which ended with him supplying teenage striker Senny Mayulu to score from inside the box.

The second have threatened to go either way, but Ramos proved decisive with yet another crucial goal from the bench. The ex-Benfica man was put through by the ever-impressive Achraf Hakimi and finished with typical confidence for his second goal of the competition, after also finding the net in the opening-day 4-0 win over Atalanta.

Nuno Mendes was issued the Player of the Match award for his performance, which saw him regularly tested by Barca sensation Lamine Yamal, with Mendes walking a tighrope while on a booking in the second half.

"I think we deserved the win," said matchwinner Ramos. "We played better than them. We played our game. We want to win everything again. We're not happy with just what we did last season. We want more."

Speaking after the match, Vitinha responded to questions centred around what was felt to be a deserved victory for his team. "It's true that it was an incredible match and I'm personally proud of this team, really, because it's happened several times before that we’ve come back. We have five players who normally start and who are not there, you have players who don't play often and they gave a great response. I want to thank all my teammates.”
