In a crucial bit of development, MARCA reports that Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger will be available for tonight’s match against Atletico Madrid, after his involvement had been in doubt in recent hours.
This comes as a major boost for Xabi Alonso and Los Blancos as they gear up for the derby in the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup.
Rudiger had raised concerns over his availability for the Super Cup semifinal due to discomfort in his knee, which required extra caution.
As a result, the veteran centre-back had not trained with the rest of the team on Wednesday and had worked individually.
But subsequent tests and his physical sensations have confirmed that it was only a minor scare. Rudiger is fit to play and has communicated this to the coaching staff.

As a result, the final decision rests with Alonso. The coach knows he has the defender available and can include him in the starting line-up if he deems it appropriate for such a demanding match.
Rudiger’s availability comes as a huge boost for Real Madrid as his presence is particularly significant in high-tension matches such as a derby. His competitive nature, physical strength and experience in major fixtures make him a decisive player.
Rudiger provides not only defensive solidity, but also leadership, intensity and a strong ability to impose himself on the opposition.
Having him in the defensive line, to guide the younger players like Raul Asencio and Alvaro Carreras will be a major boost.
Moreover, with Dean Huijsen having barely trained since recovering from an issue himself, Rudiger’s availability and readiness will be a major plus.
