Gorosabel has fallen down the pecking order at Athletic under new coach Terzic, who wants wing-backs that get up and down the flank. The right-back has been made available for transfer.
As reported by as.com, Rincón has returned and convinced the new boss, and Areso has begun pre-season determined to impress. Given the significant 2025 investment in the former Osasuna defender, moving him on now is considered unlikely.
Last term Gorosabel stepped in when Valverde lost faith in Areso, who had not convinced despite a 12 million fee. Lekue slipped down the order and chose to retire.
The ex-Real Sociedad full-back arrived on a free in 2024 after a bridge spell at Alavés, logging 2,037 minutes across 34 matches, with 24 in La Liga. His campaign was affected by a hip injury in April.
Gorosabel, from Arrasate, is under contract until 2028 and turns 30 next Tuesday, and he still hopes his situation changes. A moderate strain to his right adductor longus on day one at Lezama has delayed his first outing.
One possibility under consideration involves Osasuna. With Rosier facing a potentially lengthy absence through a muscle injury, their first choice is Lizancos, but Burgos are unwilling to sell for under four million. Braulio is keeping tabs on Gorosabel and could act if he terminates his deal in Bilbao, viewing him as a reliable fit.
