Spanish federation salute Unai Simón after 650-minute World Cup record | OneFootball

The Spanish federation have honoured Unai Simón with a commemorative shirt after the Athletic goalkeeper's 650-minute World Cup clean-sheet record.

Luis de la Fuente and sporting director Aitor Karanka presented a jersey bearing his name and the number 650. El Correo reports that the trio posed with it on Tuesday.

Simón went 120 minutes without conceding against Morocco at the 2022 tournament, then kept clean sheets throughout this year's group stage and against Austria. Belgium finally broke Spain's resistance in the quarter-finals, ending the streak at 650 minutes.

The achievement earned him a place in Guinness World Records. It eclipsed Walter Zenga's 517-minute World Cup best from 1990 and surpassed Spain's previous mark set by Iker Casillas between 2010 and 2014.

This is Spain's first camp since adding a second star. De la Fuente has called his squad for four Nations League games, starting with England at Wembley, then Croatia in Seville, the Czech Republic in Oviedo, and finishing in Split against Croatia.

The coach has largely kept his World Cup core, including the three Athletic champions in the group, Simón, Aymeric Laporte, who appeared in a statement T-shirt, and Nico Williams. New arrival Josep Martínez, the Inter goalkeeper, replaces the injured Joan García.
