Andoni Gorosabel was not named to face Atalanta. His immediate future remains open, and a resolution may not arrive until one September.
According to AS, a slow top-flight market with limited spending and tactical manoeuvring is delaying decisions, while the right back’s deal runs to June 2028.
He joined on a free in 2024 after a bridge spell at Alavés following Real Sociedad. Last season he logged 2,037 minutes across 34 matches in all competitions, with 24 in the league. An April hip injury shaped that campaign.
With Terzic in and Rincón back from his Girona loan with added status, the picture has shifted. The German coach wants high-running wing-backs, comfortable building play and hitting the byline. That profile does not fit Gorosabel, who is more combative and defensively rigorous.
Areso carries a far higher cost after a 12 million outlay with Osasuna in summer 2025, and Terzic wants to bring him back into the fold after a grey year as back-up in the right-back role.
Gorosabel, 30, is on the market and top-tier options are being explored. He began pre-season hampered by a moderate right adductor longus issue that kept him out of the friendlies. He has now recovered and is back with the group.
