Excluding the blunder in Portland, NJ/NY Gotham FC appears to be on the right track this season. The team has won three of their last four matches, including a superb road win against the Washington Spirit this past weekend. Moreover, in those three wins, the Bats scored three or more goals and had two clean sheets.
Of course, it would not be shocking for the team to have a few tough losses over the next month or two. It takes time to develop chemistry and consistency with a drastically different roster.
Fans can be excited about the future, though. Meanwhile, there are some things to discuss. Here is another Gotham FC news roundup.
Esther González has been on fire for Gotham FC. In the last four games, she has scored seven goals. Three of those matches saw the forward secure a brace.
Now, after the NWSL played this weekend, Esther remains in the lead in the Golden Boot race. Her seven goals are three more than the next highest, four. Barbra Banda and Ashley Hatch both have scored four in 2025.
Hopefully, Esther will continue to score for Gotham.
In case one missed the news, Midge Purce will be on Broadway! According the club, "Purce will deliver the opening monologue for Chicago at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, as the city’s preeminent top-tier professional women’s soccer club and the long-running, Tony Award-winning show join forces to promote Gotham FC’s upcoming Broadway Night game."
Truthfully, Purce was probably the best Gotham FC player for this since she is often in the spotlight. Her personality also makes her perfect for the opening monologue.
Additionally, this is incredible. Whoever is responsible for thinking of this idea is ultimately brilliant. Combining the NWSL and Broadway will introduce fans of one to the other. It is unknown whether any other team in the New York area has ever done this. If this is a first, then it is such a cool concept.
This is also a perfect way to promote Broadway Night, which will take place on Friday, May 16. Ironically, those who are currently performing on Broadway will not be able to attend due to the Friday night performances. However, actors and performers who are not involved with a show can go to the match. Others involved in shows, like writers and producers, could go as well.
Who would have thought a Gotham FC player would make her Broadway debut? Yet, Purce is taking the stage to represent the club. Again, this is incredible. So, as it is said in the theatre world, break a leg! Just don't break a leg on the pitch.
