After going winless in the first three NWSL games since returning from the summer break, NJ/NY Gotham FC will aim to win their first league game since the win over Bay FC on June 21. The Bats won in the middle of the week in the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, so ideally, that will act as a confidence booster. They also have a good chance to earn all three points since they will be playing against Utah Royals FC.
Thus far, Gotham has had nothing but success since the Royals rejoined the NWSL. The NJ/NY side has won all three matches played and has scored eight goals. The recent history should also act as a confidence booster, for the Bats know they can score multiple goals against them. In addition, Utah remains in last place and still has not won since April, when they secured three points for the first and last time against Chicago Stars FC.
Of course, nothing is guaranteed, as seen in the tragic loss against the Houston Dash. Sports Illustrated Stadium is not a fortress like it was in 2024, either. Sadly, it would not be shocking if Gotham manages to lose this match. They have dropped points in games they should have won this year, which is part of why they are struggling in the NWSL. But the ladies desperately need a home win and to change things in league play.
It would be smart for Wednesday’s goal scorers against C.F. Monterrey Femenil. Bruninha and Khyah Harper found the back of the net, so they should be awarded a start against Utah. Perhaps this will be the way to get more players to score and do so consistently.

If Gotham fans cannot watch or listen to the game, then they can follow along via the NWSL website and the club’s X account.
Saturday’s game will be a little different and involve four legs and paws. The Bats will host their Dog Days of Summer game, in which fans can bring their dogs to the match. One would have had to apply to bring their four-legged friend and have specific seats within the stadium. It will be interesting to see whether the dogs help Gotham FC secure all three points.
