Leeds United earned their first pre-season victory with a 1-0 win over Sunderland, Lukas Nmecha scoring as Tarik Muharemovic caught the eye.

After 25 minutes Nmecha punished goalkeeper Melker Ellborg’s poor positioning, squeezing in from 40 yards. Brian Brobbey scuffed the Black Cats’ best first-half opening from a Reinildo cross, before Leeds made six changes at the break and Sunderland reshaped around the hour mark, bringing half-chances for Daniel James and Anton Stach. Leeds defended well to preserve the clean sheet. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, these were the player ratings.

GK Alex Cairns six, alert to danger without being seriously tested, one comfortable late save, long distribution not always accurate. CB Joe Rodon seven, strong in the air, stepped forward to support attacks, wiped out by Brobbey on a rare Sunderland foray.

CB Sebastiaan Bornauw seven, not completely comfortable on the ball early but solid overall, used his body well to deal with threats. CB Tarik Muharemovic eight, sharp in his first 45 minutes, good on the ball and smart defensively, very much in control after the break, read it well, an impressive first showing.

RWB Jayden Bogle seven, pushed on and delivered a couple of decent balls into the box, looked physically up for it, always an option. CM Sean Longstaff six, buzzed about and tried to influence play, short of his Wrexham impact and frustrated with the referee.
