Granit Xhaka has marked the first anniversary of his Sunderland move with a message to supporters.

In a recent press conference, head coach Regis Le Bris said the question of his future is closed, calling the midfielder a good captain who loves the club and wants to stay.

The Swiss international arrived on 30 July last year and quickly became central to a side that surpassed expectations, finishing seventh in the Premier League and booking Europa League football.

Earlier this summer there was the prospect of a surprise exit, with newly appointed Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso identifying Xhaka as a key target, but the 33-year-old opted to stay.

On Instagram, Xhaka shared a collage soundtracked by Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love, reflecting that the year has flown, praising what has been built together, expressing gratitude, and setting his sights on an even bigger campaign.

With kick-off less than a month away, he signalled he is ready for another season in red and white.
