Ryan Gravenberch has said Liverpool are frustrated after losing to Manchester City at Anfield.

Liverpool’s hopes of Champions League football suffered a blow as the Reds lost 2-1 to the Citizens on Sunday afternoon. After a goalless first half that City dominated, Liverpool improved after half-time and went ahead through Dominik Szoboszlai’s spectacular free-kick.

Arne Slot’s side were the better team after the break, but conceded twice late on as a spirited City comeback secured the visitors all three points.

Bernardo Silva prodded in from Erling Haaland’s knockdown to level, before the latter dispatched a stoppage-time spot-kick after Alisson’s foul on Matheus Nunes. In an eventful conclusion, City had a third goal disallowed, with Szoboszlai sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity by VAR.

The defeat leaves Liverpool sixth and five points adrift of Manchester United in the battle for the top four.

“Amazing free-kick from Dom and then they score and then in the end the decision of the ref to give a penalty and they go 2-1. It was difficult after it,” Gravenberch reflected to BBC Match of the Day.

“City were far better than us in the first half but in the second half, we were far better than them. That’s why it’s difficult to come away with nothing.

“When we played them away, they beat us 3-0. We had control today but we have to move on. Sunderland is waiting for us.”
