AC Monza manager Ivan Juric praised Southampton loanee Jay Robinson after the 19-year-old was "great" on his first start against fellow Serie A side Torino in the Italian Cup.

According to Daily Echo, Robinson impressed across 76 minutes, completing a match-high four dribbles and recording nine touches in the opposition box. He went close to a goal when a right-footed curler from the edge of the area struck the post.

Juric, who had Robinson training with Southampton’s first team during his stint as Saints manager 18 months ago, was encouraged by the youngster’s showing.

"Jay is a very young kid," said Juric. "He's still far from his potential because he is still physically developing, but he played a great game today."

"He couldn't play in the Championship at Southampton, but here I think we can bring out the best in him."

Robinson had previously made just one substitute appearance for Monza, coming on in their league defeat to Inter Milan two weeks ago.
