Getafe have gained breathing space through a limited accord with LaLiga that permits staggered registrations, with any sales helping balance the books.

According to AS, Ángel Torres and his team engineered a plan to satisfy LaLiga, and the president kept an ace up his sleeve, Mason Greenwood.

Javier Tebas did not give Getafe the same approval Barcelona received for Joan Laporta’s palancas, essentially permission to mortgage future income to operate in the market.

Greenwood, 24, is coveted by leading European clubs, and there has been speculation Atlético would pay 100 million. He arrived at Getafe on loan in summer 2023 from Manchester United after a domestic violence case involving the woman he later married, mother of his two children.

In that move, Getafe took 25% of his federative rights. After a successful season, United recalled him and sold him to Olympique de Marseille for 30 million. Getafe received a little over 6 million and secured 20% of any profit United may receive from a future transfer.

With Greenwood’s value rising at 24, Getafe have put that 20% entitlement on the market for investors, with no immediate sale required. The player who found a second chance at the Coliseum could now help ease the club’s predicament.
