Our captain was the standout performer, helping City to complete a WSL and FA Cup double for the first time after a 4-0 win over Brighton at Wembley.

Greenwood, who lifted the WSL title a few weeks ago, was the first person to lift the FA Cup trophy this afternoon after making the enjoyable walk up the famous Wembley steps towards the royal box.

Our England international stepped up in a big way during what was a tough opening 45 minutes for City by clearing an effort off the line, before teeing up Bunny Shaw for the opening goal and then getting her name on the scoresheet for the first time this season from a free-kick.

City continued to grow in confidence after the break with a dominant style of play and then a further two goals from Aoba Fujino and the returning Vivianne Miedema helped to seal a huge win for Andrée Jeglertz’s side.

And Greenwood was delighted by the manner in which the Blues stepped up another gear after sealing the league title.

Speaking to TNT Sports, our captain said: “What a season, what a way to end the season. We had a period between winning the league, and now, we enjoyed ourselves and enjoyed being winners.

“But today was about doing what champions do, and that’s to come and win again and again, and this is a fantastic team to be a part of.

“If you watched the game, I don’t think we actually played very well in the first half to be honest, and I think we started the game a little bit slow.

“The difference is we can not concede a goal, and we know how to change the momentum of the game. We believe in each other, the tactics, and we have incredible individuals who can take the game by the scruff of the neck.”

Greenwood’s exquisite free-kick in first half stoppage time handed City a vital two-goal cushion going into the break.

The skipper, who has been well known for her expertise from dead ball situations, found the bottom corner of the Brighton net for her first goal of the season.

And, while there were conversations and discussions around the ball before the free kick was taken, Greenwood admitted there was only going to be one person taking it.

“I practice it (free kicks) all the time, and I haven’t scored a single goal all season, which has been quite annoying,” she added.

“When she gave the free kick, I just thought, ‘you’ve practised all season, so do something about it’, and thank God it went in the back of the net.”
