Grégory Lorenzi has never been closer to leaving Stade Brestois, according to a report from L’ÉquipeThe sporting director is attracting interest from across France.

Lorenzi came in for big praise for his role in guiding Brest into the UEFA Champions League two seasons ago. However, Les Ty-Zéfs are now back in midtable and, as Eric Roy has publicly repeated, the club are lacking in financial means to target much higher.

Lille, Lens, and Rennes also interested

Lorenzi’s reputation has never been better, however. This summer looks like the right opportunity for him to depart. Whilst he still shares a good relationship with Roy, the Brest manager’s public criticism of the lack of means at the club and the slowness in recruitment has “annoyed” Lorenzi, as he told L’Équipe earlier in the season.

Clubs are already lining up to hire the Brest sporting director. As per L’Équipe, AS Saint-Étienne, SCO Angers, Stade Rennais, Lille OSC, RC Lens, FC Lorient, and OGC Nice are all interested. The latter have already opened talks with Lorenzi, who is a long-term target of Les Aiglons. With the club in crisis and at risk of relegation to Ligue 2, it is expected that Florian Maurice will vacate the role at the end of the current season.
