Grêmio are close to an agreement with Luís Castro on a two-year contract, with an option for a further year. Final details are still being discussed and an announcement could follow soon.
According to Globo.com, negotiations have accelerated in recent hours, though there is caution as the last 10% typically needs fine tuning.
Talks on Tuesday night left the club optimistic. The total monthly cost of the Portuguese's coaching staff is expected to be about R$ two million.
Castro is in line to take over following the departure of Mano Menezes, who was told on Tuesday that his contract would not be renewed.
The club also plan to recruit a head scout aligned with the prospective coach. Fernando Lázaro, who oversaw the area under Alberto Guerra's administration, left during the change of leadership, along with others in the football department.
A Wednesday press conference will present the reshaped football department and CEO Alex Leitão. There is an expectation that Castro could be confirmed at that event.
The coach is assessing the club's youngsters, weighing immediate first-team use against longer-term development. Grêmio value their under-17 group, including Luis Eduardo, Tiaguinho and Gabriel Mec, who were with Brazil's under-17s at this year's World Cup.
