Grêmio cut spending but add starters as six leave in closing window | OneFootball

Brazil’s international transfer window closes on Friday. Grêmio cut spending versus the first window yet added six signings, while selling their top academy talent and making five other exits, including Willian and Arthur.

According to Globo.com, six left in this window: Arthur to Santos, Willian released, André Henrique and Gabriel Mec sold, Viery sold, and Monsalve loaned to Estudiantes. Permanent exits were finalised for Arezo to Peñarol and goalkeeper Adriel to Torrense.

Of six recruits, only right-back Diego Caito and centre-back Wallace involved fees, R$ 5 million to Goiás and R$ 3 million to CRB. Jovane Barbosa, Filip Krovinovic and Danilo Barbosa arrived as free agents, and Matheus Nascimento joined via a Botafogo debt offset.

Despite the lower outlay, Caito and Wallace have held starting roles, as has Krovinovic, the new No 10.

They explored Fiorentina’s Nicolás Valentini and Matías Moreno for the left side, but talks did not progress.

The long-anticipated sale arrived as Porto bought Gabriel Mec for €11 million plus €1 million in bonuses, with Grêmio owning 80 percent of his rights.

Shakhtar Donetsk bid €12 million in July, accepted by the club, but the player declined to move to Ukraine. With him a reserve under Luís Castro and offers down from €15 million in 2015 and from Chelsea in 2024, Grêmio took the Portuguese bid to ease finances.

In June, during the World Cup pause, Viery moved to Fiorentina for €15 million plus €2 million in add-ons, with Grêmio holding 100 percent of his rights.
