Grêmio are exploring reinforcements for Luís Castro and are assessing a move to bring back Tetê from Panathinaikos, the forward having previously worked with the Portuguese at Shakhtar Donetsk.

According to Globo.com, Tetê’s name has been discussed at CT Luiz Carvalho and he is among the club’s targets, with a view that agent Pablo Bueno, despite past friction, could assist negotiations.

The club’s finances, which limit major spending, are a concern, so there is caution. Grêmio are evaluating options and initially plan to pursue a loan.

Panathinaikos are not enticed by a loan at this stage, but Grêmio intend to make an attempt in the coming days. Tetê arrived in Porto Alegre on Monday to spend the festive period.

On the same day, Castro was asked about recruiting a number 10, he laughed and did not answer. Felipão interjected with a joke that the playmaker could wear 14, the number Tetê used at Shakhtar.

A Grêmio academy product, Tetê was sold to Shakhtar in 2019 for 12 million euros without making a senior appearance. He later had spells with Lyon, Leicester, Galatasaray of Türkiye, and Panathinaikos.

For Panathinaikos this season he has played 27 matches, scoring two goals with seven assists. Last season he featured in 49 games, with 11 goals and three assists.
