Grêmio host Chapecoense with worrying record against bottom sides | OneFootball

Grêmio turn back to the Brasileiro on Sunday, hosting bottom side Chapecoense at the Arena amid their Copa do Brasil semi-final push.

According to Globo.com, despite Chapecoense sitting in the relegation zone, Grêmio have not beaten any of the current bottom four this season.

In the first round they drew 1-1 away to Chapecoense, then lost 2-1 to Vasco in Rio. That was followed by a 0-0 home draw with Remo and a 2-1 defeat at Mirassol.

Grêmio are 15th and also failed to beat their biggest rivals, who are one place below, after a goalless Gre-Nal at Beira-Rio. Their record stands at 23 matches, six wins, seven draws and 10 defeats, a 36% return.

After Thursday’s derby, Luís Castro said the schedule has not allowed the team to settle, that the players lack calm, and that it is a pity not to have four or five more points. He added they are in a very dangerous area and that everyone must give their best to move Grêmio away from it quickly.

For Sunday, Castro is without right-back Diego Caito, who has a left-shoulder injury from Gre-Nal 453, and midfielder Noriega, suspended after a third yellow card.

On 25 points and under pressure, Grêmio need a win to avoid risking a drop into the relegation zone this round. If beaten, they could be overtaken by Remo on 23 points, Mirassol on 24, and Inter on 25.
