Grêmio lose Luís Castro and two starters for Athletico trip

Grêmio will be without head coach Luís Castro and two starters for Saturday’s Campeonato Brasileiro match at Athletico, at the Arena da Baixada. Castro was sent off for dissent, while Carlos Vinícius and Viery are suspended after receiving a third yellow card.

According to Globo.com, assistant Vitor Severino will take charge for the fixture.

Centre-back Gustavo Martins returns after serving a suspension in the 1-0 win over Coritiba at the Arena.

Wagner Leonardo is expected to partner Gustavo Martins in defence in place of Viery. In attack, Braithwaite is expected to replace Carlos Vinícius.

The coaching staff had already planned to rest regulars for this game, given the synthetic surface and the fixture load. Grêmio visit Palestino in Chile on Wednesday, and Castro and the starters will be available for that match.
