Grêmio face a fresh financial issue, with an unpaid signing-on fee owed to Carlos Vinícius after he joined on a free transfer, amid negotiations over a new deal. The previous administration under former president Alberto Guerra left R$ 8 million outstanding.
With his contract up at the end of the season, he can sign a pre-contract and is attracting interest. Olé reports that Club América offered a salary of US$ 7 million per season, which the No 95 is said to have declined.
The same report says he wants a three-year contract from Grêmio on around R$ 2.1 million a month, with performance clauses that could lift it to R$ 2.5 million. He currently earns about R$ 900,000.
Automatic extension clauses in the deal signed during Guerra’s tenure were not triggered, since he was not called up for the World Cup and did not play at least 45 minutes in 70% of Grêmio’s matches.
Vinícius has 18 goals and two assists in 40 games in 2026, underlining why Grêmio want to keep him. Since joining from Fulham in 2024, he has scored 30 in 54.
He is third in the 2026 Brasileirão scoring charts on 10 goals and remains the side’s primary attacking reference as they seek points to steer clear of the relegation zone. He is also among Grêmio’s main hopes in the Copa do Brasil.
