Grêmio have been placed under a preventive transfer block after triggering an Insolvency Event under Brazil’s financial sustainability rules.
According to Globo.com, the Anresf measure, akin to a transfer ban, means any new registration needs prior approval. It is the first use of RSSF Section 8, in force since 1 January 2026 and applicable to Insolvency Events from 30 April 2026.
The move followed Grêmio submitting a collective creditors’ payment plan to the CNRD to clear almost R$ 16 million across 23 cases over 60 months.
The block sits on the CBF’s registration system and the club have been invited to negotiate an RSSF Restructuring Agreement.
Clearance for new deals requires a positive net balance from outgoing transfers in the current window and total fees and commissions staying within receipts. The agency also checks the wage bill for players and coaching staff stays within the monthly cap, which cannot exceed the average of the six months before the Insolvency Event.
The club do not plan further signings this window, and say they would be able to register a recruit given this year’s sales. Grêmio state they have raised R$ 167 million from sales in 2026, that spending on signings is below that sum, and that the squad’s average salary is falling.
The RSSF allows the block to be lifted via a Restructuring Agreement with Anresf alongside the CNRD’s assessment of the plan.
