Grêmio are exploring a move to sign Savarino from Botafogo, with the new hierarchy seeking creative reinforcements for head coach Luis Castro amid a tight budget.

SBT reports that the Porto Alegre club are trying to reach an agreement that would bring the Venezuelan in while offsetting Botafogo’s debt arising from the recent transfers of Nathan Fernandes and Cuiabano.

Botafogo are undergoing a major overhaul, and higher earners are being offered to other teams. Savarino has attracted interest from Corinthians, and São Paulo have also tried to negotiate his arrival.

The player and his family initially preferred to remain in Rio de Janeiro, a stance that complicated moves elsewhere.

Grêmio are among the few clubs to state publicly that they want Savarino, rating his versatility out wide and centrally.

His contract with Botafogo runs until December 2028.
