Sky Germany report that VfB Stuttgart are closing in on the signing of Grischa Prömel.

The 31-year-old Stuttgart-native will sign a contract until June 2029, where the Hoffenheim player will then become one of VfB’s highest earners.

Speaking to Sky in February, Prömel, who has been ever-present for Hoffenheim this season, said: “I’ve often said before games against VfB that it’s something special for me.

“I was born in Cannstatt and many of my friends are at the stadium.”

High-flying Hoffenheim, who sit third ahead of Stuttgart on goal difference, ‘fought until the very end’ to tie Prömel down to a new contract after his seven goals and two assists this term.

Stuttgart doing business early

Angelo Stiller and Atakan Karazor have formed a formidable partnership in the midfield engine room and with young Spaniard Chema Andres waiting in the wings, VfB are well stocked.

The addition of Prömel will add further experience to Sebastian Hoeneß’s squad as they look likely to confirm a third successive campaign in European competition.
