Pep Guardiola says that Jeremy Doku and Savinho are both close to returning for Manchester City.
Doku suffered a calf injury in Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Galatasaray in the Champions League at the end of January.
Guardiola gave an update on the winger’s fitness after their 1-1 draw with Salford in the FA Cup.
“He’s close,” he said. “Still hasn’t trained with us yet, so we will see. It’s a little bit better, we played really good in the last games, but today this type of games we need wingers.
“We have just one with Antoine Semenyo and Antoine has played a lot of minutes. If you make a quick shift with Doku, with Semenyo, with Savinho, the defender is defending the 18 box for 90 minutes.
“We didn’t have that today, the shift was slow and when we arrived there, we could not drop them, that’s why everything was so difficult.”
Savinho has been out with a leg injury since Manchester City’s New Year’s Day draw against Sunderland. Guardiola gave further updates on his recovery.
“He is out injured for six, eight weeks,” he said. “That means two months. It’s a lot of time.
“He could play a few minutes now, but that way he doesn’t want to take risks. We are taking it step by step. For example, training two days ago with us. He played so good in the training so far.”
