Guardiola salutes Man City star after outstanding Liverpool win | OneFootball

Pep Guardiola saluted the performance from his side after Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 3-0 to move second in the Premier League table.

City put on a clinic to dismantle the Premier League champions at the Etihad, with Jeremy Doku the star of the show.

The Belgian winger tormented Liverpool all afternoon, and scored a sublime third goal after earlier efforts from Erling Haaland and Nico Gonzalez. Haaland had earlier missed a penalty to open the scoring, as City asserted early control in the contest.

City’s win saw Guardiola celebrate his 1000th game in management with three points and kept the Citizens within reach of Arsenal at the top of the table.

Speaking to Match of the Day at full-time, Guardiola revelled in his side’s showing and reserved special praise for man-of-the-match Doku.

“Really good first half, they pushed more [in the second half]. We forget a bit to play especially in the first five-10 minutes. They lose balls and we created momentum for them. Then they have one or two chances.

“In general, they were outstanding. Right tempo to play with the ball, the demand the teams be there defensively.”

Discussing Doku, he hailed an ‘outstanding’ individual performance from the winger: “Listen, I know I’m good, but don’t overestimate me. The players do it for themselves. We have to try give them good momentum, and a good connection. Do you think I teach him how to dribble openings? This is natural talent.

“He has an outstanding game against one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.”
