According to Diario Vasco, Pellegrino Matarazzo has named his squad to face Valencia at 19.00 on Sunday, the season’s final match at Anoeta. Guedes, absent since the Copa final with an ankle sprain, is back, and academy product Iñaki Rupérez, promoted to the Real Sociedad first team but yet to play, is also included.

There are two absences. Gorrotxategi is nursing a pubic issue that has troubled him in recent weeks, and Karrikaburu is left out for technical reasons despite being fit. Gorka Carrera comes in instead.

The Antsoain native suffered a meniscus tear on 9 August in the last pre-season friendly against Bournemouth. Conservative treatment failed, he then required surgery, and a subsequent infection delayed his return until the penultimate round. It has been 280 days, and Matarazzo would like to give him some minutes, though that remains to be seen.

The American has called up 25 players and must make two cuts. One will be Fraga, the third-choice goalkeeper, while there is some doubt over senior players.

On Saturday, Sergio Gómez did not train as he awaits good family news. Yangel Herrera sat out for load management, and Gorrotxategi also missed the session and will not dress. To complete the list, the coach has called up Beitia, Aguirre and Carrera.
