Gui Negão returns for Corinthians after four months out | OneFootball

Corinthians lost 2-0 to Internacional in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil last 16, as Gui Negão marked his return after four months out.

According to Meu Timao, the No 56 started in place of injured Yuri Alberto, who has a right thigh problem. With Memphis unavailable amid contract talks, he was preferred to Pedro Raul.

This was his first appearance since 22 March, a 1-1 draw with Flamengo at Neo Química Arena, when he replaced Breno Bidon at 33 minutes of the second half. He had not started since 11 March, a 2-0 defeat by Coritiba in Itaquera.

After the Flamengo game he joined Brazil Under-20s, then suffered a grade two injury to his right hamstring in training, sidelining him for six weeks. Once fit under Fernando Diniz, he stayed unused on the bench for eight matches and was left out of more recent squads.

Short of senior minutes, Gui Negão returned to the Under-20s and started both quarter-final ties against Palmeiras in the Brasileiro Sub-20. This was Corinthians’ first defeat in this year’s cup, and the second leg is on Thursday six at 20:00 at Neo Química Arena. They must win by three or more to progress in normal time, while a two-goal victory takes it to penalties as away goals do not apply.
