Gui Negão scored Corinthians' only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Flamengo and says he came close to leaving in the last transfer window.

According to Globo.com, after the club decided he would stay, he received Fernando Diniz's backing and a promise of more game time, which he felt rebuilt his confidence at the Maracanã.

In early September, Corinthians rejected a loan offer from Le Mans running until 31 May 2027. The French side proposed 200,000 euros, split into 100,000 upfront and a further 100,000 if they avoided relegation from Ligue 1.

The deal included a 6.2 million euro option to buy, which would have become an obligation if he started in 60% of Le Mans' matches this season. During the loan, the French club would have covered his wages in full.

The 19-year-old had been fluctuating for Corinthians, with 17 appearances and just one goal before facing Flamengo. At one stage he slipped behind Pedro Raul as understudy to Yuri Alberto and became the last attacking option.

With his goal at the Maracanã, there is hope he can regain belief and turn it into a positive run for Corinthians. He said support from family, team-mates and staff helped him back towards form, and that although he was not at his best technically, he contributed in other areas and was rewarded with the goal.
