Guibelalde sold to Grasshopper one year after joining Athletic | OneFootball

According to El Correo, Athletic have sold midfielder Guibelalde to Grasshopper one year after signing him from Real Sociedad’s B team. The fee was not disclosed, and the Basque club retained a percentage of any future sale.

The 22-year-old moves to the Swiss Super League to strengthen a Zurich side that stayed up by beating Aarau in the relegation play-off last season. His more than 1.90 metres gives Grasshopper extra power in midfield.

He joined Athletic last summer after converting an extra-time penalty that sealed Sanse’s promotion to Segunda División against Nàstic de Tarragona. He had already agreed terms as his contract was expiring. Before that he spent nine years at Zubieta, played for Spain Under-19, and came through Antiguoko.

Under Jokin Aranbarri, now Eibar coach, he did not secure a regular starting place. He made 24 appearances in Primera Federación last season, with only six starts and no goals.

He could make his Grasshopper debut on 30 August away to Vaduz.

By contrast, Eder García, the other Sanse midfielder who arrived last summer, has joined Córdoba on loan after 34 games and four goals for the reserves and a first-team bow. Ernesto Valverde used him against Elche and Barça. He scored Córdoba’s second on debut, but they lost to Burgos at El Plantío.
