Guido Rodríguez has revived his form at Mestalla since January and is weighing options beyond June, when his six-month deal ends. Valencia want to keep him but only within their budget, and the club accept his terms are high.
Ron Gourlay has spoken with the midfielder’s camp, though discussions have not moved forward, in part because LaLiga survival is not yet mathematically secure. Radio Marca reports interest from Mexico.
The Argentine has featured in 11 of 12 matches since arriving, completing the last eight. That upturn counters the doubts from his West Ham spell, where he played six of 23 Premier League games, only two as a starter.
Newly 32, he is likely chasing his last big contract. His short deal gave him control in talks, and he is listening to suitors across Europe, including some in LaLiga, while setting firm conditions. He is pushing for top-end wages, pointing to his Valencia form, and he forfeited part of his salary on leaving West Ham.
One major obstacle for Valencia is the financial muscle of a Mexican bidder. Rodríguez previously played in Mexico with Club Tijuana and América before moving to Europe via Real Betis.
Corberán wants him to stay, as Gourlay has conveyed to Kiat Lim, but any agreement must fit the numbers, either through a lower salary or by adding more years than initially planned.
