Pablo Guiñazu has been appointed head coach of Guemes, who play in Primera B Nacional, Argentina’s second division. According to Globo.com, he takes over a side sitting next to bottom in Group B.
Guemes have 13 points from 13 matches. Their most recent outing ended in a 4-1 defeat to Colegiales de Munro.
It is the fifth club of Guiñazu’s managerial career. Before Guemes, Cholo led Atlético Tucumán and Talleres in Argentina, and Sol de America and Libertad in Paraguay.
Guiñazu retired in 2019 while at Talleres. He returned four years later to turn out for hometown amateur side Juventud Agrario de Corralito, in Córdoba.
A Newell’s Old Boys graduate, he made history at Inter, playing 282 games and scoring four goals. Over a little more than six years, he won four Gauchão titles, plus the Copa Dubai, Copa Sudamericana, Copa Suruga, Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana. He captained the side under Tite in 2008.
In Brazil he also represented Vasco between 2013 and 2015, lifting the Carioca in his final season.
