Serhou Guirassy believes Borussia Dortmund will benefit from healthy competition for places. The Guinean striker has formed a strong bond with Fábio Silva in recent games as their partnership helped Niko Kovac’s side to victories over Villarreal and Paderborn.
"With Fábio, we always have a very good relationship,” Guirassy told Bundesliga (DFL) in an exclusive interview. “Even when I wasn’t playing, I gave him advice. And, when he isn't playing, he gives me advice. I’m someone who understands that football is like that.
“One day I’m going to score, another day someone else is going to score. That’s football. Whether you’re jealous or not, if he’s going to score, he’s going to score. So we might as well push each other to improve and let the team benefit from that."
The 30-year-old values building a personal friendship with his competitors for a better link-up on the pitch. “If you feel more comfortable with the person, it’s even easier. Fábio and I have a very good relationship, and we talk a lot.”
Guirassy further explains the playing style of the tattooed striker. “He’s a young player with a lot of energy and determination, and that’s good for us. When you look at the types of players we have, he’s different from Costa (Konstantinos Karetsas), different from me, Elias (Giannis Konstantelias) or Carney (Chukwuemeka). So it’s good to have another style. That helps the team.”
