Guirassy brace gives Dortmund winning start | OneFootball

Serhou Guirassy scored twice before a late own goal as Borussia Dortmund edged Villarreal 3-2 to open their Champions League campaign with victory.

Dortmund struggled to create clear chances before taking the lead in the 53rd minute, when Renato Veiga inadvertently turned Maximilian Beier’s cross into his own net. Villarreal responded 14 minutes later as Santiago Mouriño headed in Georges Mikautadze’s corner.

The hosts improved after the break and restored their advantage in the 80th minute, Guirassy tapping in Fabio Silva’s low ball across the face of goal.

The Guinea international then struck from the penalty spot three minutes later after Mouriño was penalised for holding him at a corner.

Villarreal pulled one back in stoppage time when Gregor Kobel’s save rebounded off Guirassy and into the net, but Dortmund survived a late scare to secure three points.

Guirassy has now been directly involved in 26 Champions League goals in 25 appearances since the start of 2024/25.
