Jon Guridi returns to Anoeta for tomorrow’s derby, back in prominent form for Alavés. The midfielder has worn both shirts, while Alavés seek Copa del Rey revenge.
He rose through Zubieta to the first team and debuted against his current club, Alavés. His last return to Anoeta finished 1-2 to Alavés, with Guridi completing the 90 minutes. As reported by AS.
Under Quique Sánchez Flores, Guridi started against Valencia and impressed. He then featured in the 1-1 draw with Villarreal, before coming on at half-time to help spark the historic 3-4 comeback at Celta Vigo.
Against Osasuna he stood out for his pressing, ranking third in the squad this season, and first for aerial duels per game.
He posted 94% pass accuracy and was seven from seven in the final third, leading the match for touches there. Sánchez Flores has used him in a double pivot and wide, and this season he has also played as a 10 and up front.
Since arriving in 2022 he has become indispensable at Mendizorroza, making 140 appearances. Edu Alonso’s 151 is within reach, a mark that would take him into the club’s top 15.
He celebrated promotion in 2023 and everything points to him being key again in the survival push. His contract ends in June and there is no official renewal offer, with the club waiting to confirm safety before major squad decisions. Protesoni, who has an offer, and back-up goalkeeper Raúl are also out of contract.
