Sheffield United are set for a busy summer transfer window, with Gus Hamer among those who could be on the move.

Sheffield United will be looking back at their poor start of the season with regret as they seem set to fall short in their quest to reach the play-offs.

The decision to sack Chris Wilder and change the transfer strategy last summer always appeared risky considering he had taken the team to within one game of the Premier League, and he obviously has won promotion from this level before.

It became apparent very quickly that the appointment of Ruben Selles didn’t work out, and with Wilder now back at Bramall Lane, he will look at building a team to take the Blades back to the top flight this summer.

4 ? ? Sheffield United expecting busy summer transfer window

With a lot of the current squad on loan, decisions will need to be made on their futures, but another year outside the Premier League means he is unlikely to be working with the biggest budget.

That’s not going to be a problem for the boyhood fan, who has shown over the years he has an eye for a player. Plus, Sheffield United will be able to raise funds from individuals in their current squad who are likely to move on.

With that in mind, it could turn out to be a very busy summer for the Blades, and here we look at THREE players who could be on the move as part of that shake-up…

3 ? ? Gus Hamer

This is one that all connected to Sheffield United won’t want to happen. Hamer is brilliant at this level, and even though he hasn’t hit the heights of last season, he has still recorded 11 assists and remains a huge influence on the team.

But, with his contract expiring in the summer of 2027, the attacking midfielder will enter the final year of his deal at Bramall Lane, which puts the club in a difficult position, especially with Hamer earning no shortage of interest elsewhere.

Therefore, they either need to agree fresh terms or get a decent fee for Hamer whilst they can, and, in truth, a new contract seems unlikely.

Even with his contract situation, Hamer should still command a decent fee, and that will need to be reinvested in quality to help replace his output.

2 ? ? Tom Cannon

There was a lot of excitement when Sheffield United paid around £10m to sign Cannon in January 2025, with the striker expected to score the goals to take the team to the Premier League.

Sadly for all parties, it hasn’t worked out that way so far, with Cannon struggling to find his best form for the Yorkshire outfit.

At 23, it’s too soon to write Cannon off, and there is a chance the ex-Everton man could have a strong end to the season which would change the outlook on his career at Bramall Lane.

Nevertheless, right now, his move hasn’t gone to plan, and a fresh start could be best for the player and the club, with Cannon another that could fetch a decent sum.

1 ? ? Tahith Chong

Chong has had some bad luck on the injury front since he joined Sheffield United, but, even when he has been fit and available, the midfielder is struggling to get in Wilder’s best XI.

The former Man Utd man has shown he can produce in the Championship over the years, but the Blades haven’t been able to see him at his best.

So, like Cannon, a fresh start may be best for the player and the club, as the 26-year-old is reaching a stage in his career where he needs to be a key figure and out on the pitch week in, week out.

It seems unlikely that will come at Bramall Lane, and there are sure to be takers for Chong if he is available for a transfer this summer.
